Bikas Mishra
Writer & Director
Bikas Mishra is an award-winning Indian writer-director whose work spans features, short films, and literary adaptations. His debut feature Chauranga (2014) earned the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and was named Best Indian Feature at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), establishing him as one of the distinctive voices in contemporary Indian cinema.
His short film Naach Ganesh (Dance of Ganesha) traveled to some of the world's most prestigious festivals — Clermont-Ferrand, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Busan, and IFFLA — before he went on to adapt two towering works of Indian theatre for the screen: legendary playwright Badal Sarkar's Pagla Ghoda and Jnanpith awardee C. S. Kambar's Harakeya Kuri, both streaming on Zee5.
His forthcoming feature Bayaan had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, followed by official selections at the Busan International Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival.
His writing credits also extend to high-profile productions including Netflix's IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack, Dhadak 2 (Dharma Productions), and Doctor Rakhmabai.
Beyond filmmaking, Bikas has been a respected voice in film education and criticism. He has taught screenwriting at Mumbai University's Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema and Entertainment (RSACE), and has mentored writers at the NFDC Screenwriters' Lab since 2018. He has also worked as an advisor with eQuinoxe Europe, Munich.
As a film critic, he has served on the international critics' jury at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) and was invited to the Visionary Jury at Critics' Week, Cannes Film Festival, in 2012. He is a Global Media Makers (GMM) fellow at Film Independent, Los Angeles.
